TRICARE/CHAMPVA Supplemental Insurance
TRICARE & CHAMPVA overview.
VFW members and their family members who have TRICARE or CHAMPVA are also eligible to enroll in a TRICARE or CHAMPVA Supplemental insurance plan. CHAMPVA is available to the spouse or widow(er) and to the children of a veteran who meet certain criteria.
TRICARE is available to active duty service members and retirees and their family members/survivors. It pays a substantial amount for medical care, but you may still need a supplemental insurance plan to help fill in the gaps. Through the VFW you have the option to purchase a VFW-sponsored TRICARE Supplement Insurance policy from Transamerica Premier Life Insurance Company.
CHAMPVA is a program sponsored the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that helps pay for the cost of medical care. In order to be eligible for CHAMPVA, the individual cannot be eligible for TRICARE. CHAMPVA is available to the spouse or widow(er) and to the children of a 100% disabled veteran. While CHAMPVA helps pay for a portion of medical care, a supplemental insurance can help fill in the coverage gaps.
Enrollment in this TRICARE or CHAMPVA Supplement plan is easy:
— Simple enrollment process via mail or phone (acceptance is not based on your health history)
— Competitive group rates with flexible billing options (direct bill, electronic funds transfer or credit card)
— Eligibility that extends to your spouse and children (if applicable)
